From the Front Conference

I’ll be in Bologna, Italy this September attending the The frontend guide to life, universe and everything. Over the last four years or—basically since I started Central Standard—I’ve focused mostly back-end development and have not really kept up with what is going on with front-end. Front-end development is, however, how I got by start and will always been near and dear to my heart. I’m excited to for an opportunity to learn and to be around other front-end developers. And, of course, I’m excited to be in Italy again.

I’ll be in town a few extra days after the conference so if you’re around and would like to say hello or meet up for a drink let me know because I would love to meet you.

Visiting San Francisco This Week

The family and I will be in San Francisco tomorrow December 17th until Monday, December 21st. Its been almost two years since I’ve been in the area and I can’t imagine how much has changed. We already have plans and/or are staying with some of you but if you’re in the area this week and would like to grab coffee or a beer with my family and I, get in touch.

100 Words 005

My family has decide to go back to Italy again. If you’ve read my about page then you’ve heard that in 2013 we spent a month in Lucca, Italy. Even though we were there for so long we still felt like there was more to see in the town and the area so we’re going back to Lucca in early 2016 for seven weeks.

My daughter was only eight months old last time we were there. This time she will be three. Last time she was talking naps twice a day while these days we consider outselves lucky if we get one in. This hould mean that we will have more time to explore and wander.

Traveling as a Family

Our costs for travel got much more expensive after our daughter was born. We tend travel on the cheap as it is but now we’re forced to be much more frugal that we have an extra plane ticket to buy. But we don’t travel to check things off lists; we travel to experience. Traveling this way doesn’t require near as much cash.

I love giving my daughter these experiences, even though she is still very young and will only have vague—if any—memories of our trips. Getting into the habbit of travel was one of the most profound changes I made in my life and I hope to instill that habbit in her. I love the idea that her young mind is getting opened up to new things.
